The Journey To Overcoming Perfectionism

Going imperfectly doesn't sound easy for perfectionists. But maybe 'start it out' is the new 'let it go'

"Done is better than perfect," they say. Alright, I agree. We all know how rewarding it feels to draw a checkmark across that tiny little box that had been painfully empty for ages.

It's always easier said than done, though.

As a perfectionist myself, I tend to have a hard time "letting go" of the flaws and mistakes I make along the way.

I can either get disappointed by the final result of a task or simply get stuck before I even start — which leads to that infamous and tricky thing called procrastination.

With a high emphasis on the "pro" in "procrastinator!"

If we know those little tasks will keep haunting us unless we face them right when they tease us, why do we refuse to take that one single step that will somehow end up doing magic?

Back to that productivity motto that started this post...

I do think that doing it imperfectly might be the solution to a bunch of obstacles we face every day.

Whether we're struggling at work or at home while reviewing our personal projects—you know, that one you've left at the bottom of your drawer and at the corner of your mind for a while.

What we need to remember is that when it comes to progress, every. step. counts.

No matter what you do, the finish line stays there!

It doesn't matter if you fail or if you're not feeling like what you're doing is the best you could eventually do. What truly matters here is the movement.

The finish line has always been there. Just visualize how rewarding it is to get there.

It is your choice to complete the circuit or just stay in the middle of the road.

This post is a reminder to myself and to everyone who sees perfectionism as a pebble in their shoes:

Keep walking. Keep doing. Keep failing. Keep thriving.

I'd love to hear from you! What are your ideas or strategies for overcoming perfectionism? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Love,

Ana Clara.
