Letting go of people’s standards and daring to (unapologetically) be ourselves
Last August, I shared a cool quote on social media. It’s from the multi-talented artist Dolly Parton, who’s been delivering her magic to us for more than five decades now.
This quote made me think about how we tend to risk our own potential and accomplishments because we’re tied to external validation, other people’s opinions, social standards, etc.
The people-pleasing trap...
For people-pleasers like me, it can be hard not to fall into the trap of putting external opinions above my own will and needs. Sounds familiar to you?
❌📦 But the truth is: we were not made to fit into boxes or to be (mis)guided by people's limiting beliefs.
LET'S STATE SOME FACTS HERE: 👇
They don't know you as much as YOU do;
They don't have it all figured out either (aha!);
You don't have to prove anything to anyone. You don't owe them anything;
You only have to express YOUR truth;
What you can offer the world is MUCH bigger than any of those things that definitely are not as relevant as you think they are.
It's about self-talk here, too!
As I'm talking to you about this, I'm also talking to myself. Sharing these thoughts helps me notice what's limiting me so I can adjust accordingly.
I'm always learning, but I've realized that we can better connect by sharing our uncertainties, vulnerabilities, and wishes. ;)
Now, I’d like to hear from you: do you have any tips for getting rid of external validation or opinions? 👇 Feel free to share them in the comments!
If you’ve enjoyed this post, you can also find me on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube for more insights.
Wishing you days of unlimited self-expression and learning!
