If you'd like to start blogging but are still insecure, I'm going to show you its key advantages to keep you motivated!
Once upon a time, I had an idea of creating a blog about my passions. But I’ve procrastinated a lot. I've been postponing this idea for so long.
Then I started looking around and thinking: maybe all I needed was just a couple of topics, keywords, getting my butt on the chair, and voilà!
If you’d like to start blogging but are still insecure or don't know exactly where and how to start, keep reading this post! I'm going to drop in some of the facts that have motivated me to take the first step, so I think they might resonate with you.
Plus, I'm going to show you the key advantages of blogging.
Ready for it? Then let's get down to business!
What you’ll find in this post:
What made me decide to start this blog
When I bought a domain and set up a new website on my Wix account, I had considered some benefits to go ahead with this plan. I started this blog:
For promoting my work
I’m a freelance journalist and illustrator. I have an Instagram profile, as well as a Facebook page, where I regularly post my illustrations and reflections about life.
I’ve also started selling products featuring my artwork, and we know social media is a great platform for businesses — of any size — to increase visibility and get more sales.
But I wondered if there could be other ways to promote my work in such a vast and endless place called the internet.
That’s when the idea hit me. I had already made an illustration portfolio, but I was so fascinated by reading blog entries about freelancing, small business, and digital marketing strategies that I finally considered creating my own blog about these topics.
For sharing inspiration and starting more conversations
I love writing inspiring, motivational content, and if I know someone might need it for any reason, I feel even more excited to share it.
As I also love hearing people’s stories, I think starting this blog can help me reach out to a wider public that enjoys exchanging their own experiences and perspectives.
So, if you’re one of these people, please start this conversation I’m looking forward to having! What about leaving a comment at the end of this post? :)
For practicing my English
I've always loved English — I love learning foreign languages in general —, and I’ve realized throughout the years that I really like writing in this language. It’s more than a hobby; it’s a passion that I’d love to carry with me both in personal and professional projects.
Blogging turns out to be such an effective way of practicing a foreign language — and if you write about topics you’re particularly interested in, it’s even funnier!
I have learned some lessons — and I want to share them with you
I’m still starting this freelancing and art-making journey, but as I had to dive into this dimension myself, I’ve built my “portfolio” of things I’ve done, tried, and learned.
Therefore, I think it’s time for me to share these lessons, tips, and advice on all things concerning art and business — and everything in between — that I’ve had the opportunity of experiencing myself.
The advantages of starting your own blog
So, I’ve enlisted my personal reasons for blogging, but more important than that, you should know what benefits you can get by starting your own blog!
It drives traffic, awareness, impact, and sales
There’s a popular lesson in digital marketing that urges anyone who wants to enlarge their revenue to consider varied channels for promoting their work. And one of these channels is… blogs!
They’re a visibility and engagement-boosting platform, which means that, by integrating your business to this wide virtual space of blogging, you end up increasing the possibilities of having more people acknowledging your brand.
It's cheap!
Life advice: there’s always a way of making something less expensive. Okay, not a very wise one, just a way of catching your attention on this topic. Anyway, what I want to say is, you can start with what you have right now. And that's what will make all the difference!
There are several platforms that allow you to start a blog for free. WordPress, Blogger, and Wix are among the most popular and reliable websites that can make aspiring bloggers’ wishes come true in minutes.
If you’d like to add extra tools to your blog, these platforms I mentioned also have paid plans with additional resources for its users.
You don't need to be a writing or digital marketing expert
As I said, there are many accessible, easy-to-use platforms that don't require any expertise in blogging or website building to be shared with the world.
Anyway, if you think it’s better to have some assistance to keep going with your project, some of the same platforms mentioned in the previous topic offer these services, as well.
They can connect you with specialists who can do a wonderful job in areas such as design, branding, IT, digital marketing and content production, and so on.
It is a plus for your portfolio
Yes, having a blog can open up some doors for you and make you stand out. Besides being a great way to show your skills and experience, it also gives you more credibility — a.k.a more authority — in your field.
Building consistent and credible blog content requires constant learning and practice, so you should also try to stay updated on the most recent digital trends.
Don’t worry, there are countless websites, apps, and platforms that do all the curating work for you, so you can have the fresh news sent right into your email, for example (by the way, I just realized we should have some blog posts about newsletters here!).
That said, the more you keep up with the latest changes in your field, the better you get at producing your content and the more authority your blog gets. That also means...
…You keep learning about your own craft
If you’re still unsure about the advantages of starting a blog, let me remind you that there’s no better way of learning than doing.
Maybe you’re really curious about a specific topic; maybe you’ve got some good advice to share; or even a bunch of stories you’ve always wanted to tell.
No matter what your interests are, if you turn them into a regular activity you’ll learn so much. Who knows what you might find — and produce — with all that knowledge?
Everybody has a beautiful story to tell — now it's time to tell yours!
Let me tell you one thing — even if it’s the only thing you’ll remember from this post: don't underestimate your real-life stories. PLEASE. Only YOU have lived and learned the way that you have.
Remember to treasure your story, because it's freaking unique! It is, has always been, and will always be yours!
And you know what? Your story might be really helpful to someone who just needs to hear what you have to say. Think about that! ;)
What you can expect from this blog
Finally, as this is my first post, I guess you’re wondering what else you're going to see here. Well, I intend to keep it diverse, so I'll try to write about several things that I think you can relate to.
Some of the main topics you're going to find here are:
Tips and guides for small business owners;
Resources for independent artists and freelance workers to learn new tools and self-promoting their work;
Inspirational pills (reflections on life, advice, testimonies, quotes);
Productivity tips;
Booklists;
Positive vibes only! We all know how this world is messy and how stressful our routines can be at times, so here's my commitment to keep this blog positive. There’s already too much negativity around, so consider this blog as a place for you to take a break, breathe, and recharge. And well, even if you think my content is boring, at least it might help you fall asleep! ;)
P.S. 1: I would really LOVE IT if I could somehow bring a smile to your face. :)
P.S. 2: If I eventually do, please tell me because I'd love to know!
Bonus: if you’d like to get some tips to create your own blog, this content isn’t over! Check out my step-by-step guide for planning and starting a successful blog for free!
Love,
Ana Clara.
